Breyer Horse and Rider
Bea and Harold Abbott, Artist
Bea and Harold Abbott were generous donors to the museum and avid collectors and creators. One of their collections consisted of Breyer horses and accessories. The Abbotts had each Breyer horse altered to suit its purpose. All went to an artisan who gave them real manes and tails, and then to another artisan who created the correct tack, which included bridles, reins, bits, and saddles, making each horse distinct. Most of the horses also have an appropriate costumed rider, who is securely mounted.
