Create a hard wood veneer tabletop

Join us at our workshop on February 17 as we create a 1/12th scale tabletop design and hardwood veneer.

Hardwood veneer can transform any simple, flat surface such as a floor or a tabletop into a unique and decorative element for any miniature room. This class will focus on crafting a traditional, federal style inlaid fan design for a demi-lune side table.

We will walk through the steps for cutting and assembling a veneer motif then applying the design to the top of the table. We will also apply cross cut veneer, banding on the facing edge of the table for a finished look. After sanding and trimming, we will complete the item with a shellack finish followed by a bit of French polishing to achieve a deep, glowing luster to bring out the natural beauty of the wood.

The workshop will take place at the museum on Saturday, February 17, 10 am to 4pm. Cost is $30. Reserve your spot below!

The kit will include:

  • The table base and legs
  • A fan pattern
  • Light and dark veneer
  • Painter’s tape
  • Boxcutter to trim the veneer
  • Sandpaper for finishing

Students should bring:

  • Metal edge ruler and pencil
