Legacy in Miniature: Marilyn and Pete Schaefer

Marilyn Addington Schaefer (b. 1934) and Peter “Pete” Lee Schaefer (1934–2024) were pivotal figures in Indiana’s miniature arts community. In the 1970s, they co-founded Hoosier Mini-Mizers, one of the state’s earliest miniature clubs. Marilyn later led the Association of Indiana Miniatures (AIM), organizing workshops and trips that fostered creativity and connection.

In 1993, the Schaefers helped establish the Museum of Miniature Houses and Other Collections (MMH). Marilyn served as docent, archivist, and informal marketing director, curating exhibits with co-founder Suzanne Moffett. Pete contributed through repairs and crafting finely finished scale furniture.

Their efforts to create a thriving miniaturist community helped attract the National Association of Miniature Enthusiasts (NAME) to Carmel in 1995.

Known for her historically detailed room boxes, Marilyn often collaborated with Pete, whose work reflected his interests in auto racing and fine furniture craftsmanship.

After Pete’s passing, Marilyn relocated to Texas to be near family.

This exhibition celebrates the legacy of Marilyn and Pete Schaefer: their artistry, dedication, and lasting impact on the miniature arts community.
