We are pleased to announce that the room housing the museum shop and admissions office is undergoing additional renovation during the period that the museum is closed for annual maintenance: January 8-21. (The museum reopens to visitors on Wednesday, January 22, 2020.).
The Museum of Miniature Houses has one of the few active shops for miniature accessories open in Indiana. It specializes in upper-end furniture and accessories and covers furnishings from outdoor settings to kitchens to living rooms and bedrooms. Two large drawers are filled with museum-quality pieces. Novelty items are also available for purchase at any given time, such as chimneys, mailboxes, garbage cans, and musical instruments.
Besides a fresh coat of paint, new countertops will be installed. In addition, pullout drawers will be installed in the cabinets to allow shoppers to see the inventory better. Board member and shop manager Kathy Birk said, “These renovations will make shopping easier.”
Furthermore, the supplies for processing admissions, memberships, donations and shop purchases will be moved to the inner office, giving the volunteer docents much more room to work. “We always strive to make things as seamless as possible for our volunteers,” said Operations Manager Jennifer Borman.
