Out of Many: America 250
The title of this exhibition draws from E plurbus unum—“Out of many, one”—a motto long associated with the United States. As the nation marks its 250th anniversary, Out of Many reflects on how diverse people, experiences, and histories have come together to shape an evolving and often contested national story.
To mark this milestone, this exhibition brings together miniature objects reflecting the people, places, and forces that have shaped—and reshaped—the nation. Drawn from the Museum of Miniature Houses and Other Collections, these works invite close looking at scenes that reflect larger histories.
Within these small worlds are stories of connection and contradiction. They also trace changing customs and styles and evolving roles in American life.
Ships, railroads, and commercial spaces reveal movement and exchange, linking communities while transforming landscapes and lives.
Together, these objects suggest that the American story is layered, contested, and still unfolding. In miniature, viewers are asked to look closely and consider how many histories shape the present.
On display in Room 1 from June 3, 2026 through June 2, 2027.
